Allen Ginsberg residence at 1624 Milvia Street
I am sure I don’t have to introduce Allen Ginsberg on this blog. He lived here in the fall of 1955. According to the plaque at the poetry garden on the other side of the street Kerouac live in a ‘rose-covered cottage’ (Kerouac’s words) but as far as I am aware the cottage actually stood in the garden at 1624 Milvia Street, and not on Berkeley Way where Kerouac lived briefly with his mum. The house you see in the first photo is a different house than the one standing there in 1955.
Thanks (once again) to Bill Morgan whose book The Beat Generation In San Francisco (City Lights Books) provided me with this and many other locations to check out in and around San Francisco.
