Davenport, Iowa and Rock Island, Illinois

A few photos from Davenport and Rock Island, cities Kerouac passed through on his cross-country journeys described in On The Road . Unfortunately, unlike the ‘warm Midwest sun’ in the book, the weather in Davenport was absolutely dreadful – it was raining the whole day I spent there so I didn’t really feel like exploring both cities in depth, the rain was just too hard. This mean the photos are of rather poor quality too, but as I don’t know if and when I will ever pass through that area again I’ll post them on here anyway.

A view ‘up the hill’ that Kerouac was being driven by a local worker in On The Road:

I read Kerouac’s book years ago. I have hitchhiked through Davenport at least a few times. I am originally from north central Iowa.
