Happy Birthday City Lights
Despite Jack Kerouac perhaps not playing that big of a role in the history of the City Lights Bookstore and City Lights Publishing (as far as I know they only published one or two poetry collections by Kerouac) I found it fitting to upload this post. Lawrence Ferlinghetti was a longtime friend of Kerouac, most famously letting Kerouac use his cabin at Bixby Canyon, which directly lead to Kerouac writing one of his best (and most honest, in a painful way) books in my opinion Big Sur. Which reminds me that I have yet to see the film adaptation of Big Sur that was released a few months ago – anybody seen that and what did you think?
Also, hats off to Lawrence Ferlinghetti, who is apparently alive and well at 94!
Wow, only 60? Those marvelous books seemed classic way, way back when I was in high school.
All the history.
Maybe I’ll just have to reread my 75-cent Signet edition of Dharma Bums in commemoration.
Speaking of changing times, I just noticed that my computer keyboard does not have a cents character. How much we take for granted.
Thanks for the update.
