Retracing Jack Kerouac

Just a little update to let you know that I just came back from my first long-ish hike (about 9 miles) done in preparation of the hiking I want to do next year in Sierra Nevada. The inspiration for that of course being Kerouac’s Dharma Bums which I started to read and which will be the subject of another post in the near future after I finished reading it (again). I have read it a few times before and consider it to be among Kerouac’s best 3 books. I almost even let out a yodel or a native American hoo! (as preferred by Japhy Ryder aka Gary Snyder) but couldn’t quite bring myself to do that – I resolved to do though if I ever reach a summit on next year’s trip, although I doubt very much if I will make it up to Matterhorn Peak.
