Home I’ll Never Be

Two quite different versions of Kerouac’s Home I’ll Never Be which is also known as On The Road (but I guess that’s more out of commercial interest). A reading of it was apparently released on Kerouac’s On The Road 3-CD set, but I haven’t got that.

Tom Waits’ version can be found on his splendid 3-CD set Orphans (which I can heartily recommend). Waits is of course greatly influenced by Kerouac’s work and participated in the One Fast Move Or I’m Gone (Kerouac’s Big Sur) project that acted as sort-of a catalyst for my own Retracing Jack Kerouac project.  I have written about here and here way back in 2011.

Low Anthems’ version is taken from their excellent 2009 release Oh My God, Charlie Darwin
