Northport, NY

Main Street, now imagine that in Kerouac’s time without those modern cars
Northport Harbor
The images in this post were chosen to invoke a stroll through Northport as Kerouac must have done countless times in the years he spent living there. Really makes me wonder how he and especially his mum did manage, it’s a quite a spacious, hilly town, and as far as I’m aware they never owned a car so it must have been tough especially in winter. But of course he loved to go for long walks. But it is a very long walk from the train station you can see in the first few photographs to the harbor as I found out on the day I visited.
